Tom’s Restaurant (Seinfeld)
Tom's Restaurant, at West 112th Street and Broadway in New York City, was used as the establishing shot for "Monk's Cafe" on Seinfeld, a program that satirized life on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

The History:
A “Nothing” Exterior: While the interior scenes of Monk’s Café were filmed on a soundstage in Los Angeles, the iconic “RESTAURANT” neon sign outside Tom’s was used for almost every establishing shot in the show.
Musical Muse: Before Seinfeld, the diner inspired Suzanne Vega’s 1987 hit song “Tom’s Diner,” where she describes sitting at the counter and watching the people go by.
Presidential Patronage: Being located near Columbia University, it has hosted famous students over the years, including Barack Obama and John McCain (who visited while his daughter attended).
The Hunt Clue:
“Head uptown toward Columbia to find the place where a show about ‘nothing’ began. Look for the neon red sign that welcomed Jerry, George, Elaine, and Kramer for a Big Salad and a cup of coffee!”
